Holly / Ilex
There are over 400 species of evergreen or deciduous holly (Ilex) trees, shrubs and climbers. Holly has been used for its beautiful foliage and berries since Roman times. Holly is well adapted for the Southern climate. Holly has long been prized for its use as hedges and dramatic landscape accents.
Cultivation: North American hollies prefer neutral to acid soil, while Asian and European species are less fussy. Green hollies will grow in part shade; however, most variegated hollies require full sun.
