Oak / Quercus
Oaks (Quercus) are large and impressive trees that live to a great age. Oaks are used as ornamental landscape trees and can provide wonderful summer shade. Oaks have fruits (acorns) and simple leaves, though often finely and deeply lobed, with a few turning to spectacular tones of red or yellow-brown in autumn.
Cultivation: Oaks grow well in deep, alluvial valley soils or other fertile soils. Most are frost hardy. Light shade to full sun.
